SCIENCE TALENT SEARCH PROGRAM (STSP)
After a decade long experience in supporting students in pursuit of higher education, it was realized that there should be some scheme to identify brilliant students of the minority communities at the completion of their high school education and to promote them from their higher secondary education till the acquisition of highest level of education. Therefore, the MET alongside its scholarship program for higher studies in professional courses has designed and introduced a new scheme of Science Talent Search Program from the academic year 2003-2004.
MAIN OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAM:
1. To identify talented students at comparatively on early level of their education and help them in pursuing their studies till highest level without any problem.
2. To produce scholars of high calibre in the specialized and emerging branches of pure sciences and technology.
3. To develop a competitive spirit in the students with a view to make them prepared to achieve excellence in their respective fields of studies.
4. To develop the sponsored students to make them good citizen and better prepared for their future role in society.
OUTLINES OF THE PROGRAM:
It is a two-tier program and the selection of the candidates under this program will be made at two stages outlined as under:
01. Junior Talent Scholarships:
Shortlisted students having extraordinary talent who have passed high school examination will be invited from all over India for a Written Test for the award of Junior Talent Scholarship (JTS). 50 students selected purely on merit basis will be given a scholarship of IRs. 500/= per month for two years of their 10+2 education.
02. Senior Talent Scholarships:
The 50 awardees of Junior Talent Scholarship, after completing their 10+2 education will have to appear second time in a Written Test and Interview for Senior Talent Scholarship (STS). Out of these, the selection of 10 students will be made to pursue higher studies only in Pure Sciences and emerging branches of Technology. They will be given IRs. 1000/= per month each in the first three years of their degree courses, IRs. 1500/= per month for next two years for post-graduation and IRs. 5000/= for first two years of their PhD.
ELIGIBILITY:
70% marks in High School examination is the cut off point for inviting applications from the students who have admitted or intend to take admission in XIth Standard Science Stream.
WRITTEN TEST:
Shortlisted, the best students, 5 times in number of the scholarships emerging from a scrutiny of applications, will be called from all over India for a Written Test at centres notified in the call letters. The Written Test will comprise of the following subjects in varying proportion: 1.History & Culture (10 Marks) 2.General Knowledge (10Marks) 3. Science (40 Marks) 4. Mathematics (40 Marks)
